Day 1 - Depart KK for Sandakan by air. Visit its bustling fish and vegetable market. (Drive (1.5hrs) to Gomantong Caves. In a massive limestone outcrop, the caves shelter bats and swiftlets and are a source of edible birds nest. After a picnic lunch, proceed to Sukau (1 hour) and go on a river cruise in search of the proboscis monkeys. Overnight at a riverside Jungle Lodge. (Lunch/Dinner).
Day 2 - Drive to visit Sepilok Orang Utan Reserve and don't miss the rewarding experience at the 43 sq.km Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary and Virgin Jungle Reserve. Here, 24 km from Sandakan, young orphaned or captive apes are rehabilitated for life in the wild. Tour covers local fish/vegetable market on water and a fishing village built on stilts. Return flight to KK in the evening. (Breakfast/Lunch)
